Daniel is an Athlete Leader for Special Olympics Northern California and one of the most active members of our virtual programs.
Daniel, a high school senior, has been a part of the @ Home suite and virtual sports seasons since March 2020. He has participated in fitness classes, cooking, arts and crafts, virtual basketball, Summer Games and Fall Games @ Home, and much more. He especially enjoyed workouts with the Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers on Zoom last year. Daniel even applied some of the skills he learned from the 49ers workout into his own play with his high school football team.
“I like the fitness classes and meeting new friends,” said Daniel.
Daniel is well-known on our virtual programs for the way he creatively names himself on each call. In the bottom-left corner of the Zoom screen, you could see “Daniel B Ready to Boogie,” “Daniel B Pumpin’ Iron,” “Daniel B Bob Ross,” and countless others. Staff members and volunteers always enjoy Daniel’s themed names for each session.
Along with his participation in virtual programming, Daniel is an Athlete Leader for Special Olympics Northern California. He has represented Special Olympics on fundraising and ‘thank you’ videos, government funding initiatives and safety messages for fellow athletes.
“{The Athlete Leadership Program} helps me grow,” said Daniel.
Daniel plans to graduate high school this June and wants to be a drone pilot in the future. He also plans to give back as a coach for younger students with disabilities.
Whether it be with his creative names, positive attitude or blossoming public speaking skills, Daniel is a joyful and inspiring part of the Special Olympics community.
