We’ve triumphed the overwhelming positive impact of Unified Sports and others are catching on! Unified Sports – where students with and without disabilities compete together as teammates – is becoming more popular and commonplace in schools all over California. Special Olympics Northern California & Nevada along with Special Olympics Southern California have been working closely with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) on bringing Unified Sports to more schools.
The Los Angles CIF section now officially recognizes and sponsors Unified Sports! For the first time ever, students with disabilities will compete in track & field starting in 2016 and will be eligible for section championships!
California is divided into nine section within CIF. Should things go well with Unified Sports in Los Angeles, it could expand to the entire state! This is a huge step forward in promoting acceptance and providing everyone with the opportunity to participate in athletics.
It is absolutely incredible that CIF sees the inclusive value in Unified Sports and State CIF Director Roger Blake is a terrific partner in this! Special Olympics is so excited about the future of Unified Sports!
