Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the free and private social network for neighborhoods, has partnered with Special Olympics Northern California (SONC) to bring the nonprofit organization’s mission, events, and opportunities directly to members’ virtual doorsteps.
On Nextdoor, neighbors create private websites for their neighborhoods where they can ask questions, get to know one another, and exchange local advice and recommendations. Beginning on Wednesday, April 5, thousands of Nextdoor neighborhoods across Northern California will begin receiving hyperlocal information about the latest SONC competitions, fundraising events, volunteer opportunities, and more. In addition, Nextdoor will donate $1 to SONC for each new registered user using the specific sign-up link: https://nextdoor.com/?is=special_olympics.
“We’re honored to partner with SONC, an organization that is truly creating positive change in local communities across Northern California,” said Steve Wymer, Vice President of Communications and Policy at Nextdoor. “We look forward to serving as a critical communication tool and catalyst for SONC, the volunteers who bring their events to life, and the thousands of local children and adults they support.”
SONC provides free year-round sports competitions and training, educational programs and health resources to 21,250 children and adults with intellectual disabilities across the region. The organization hosts 236 competitions in 14 different sports and relies on the support of donors, sponsors and more than 20,000 volunteers to continue its mission and grow to reach more athletes.
“We are excited for the opportunity to partner with Nextdoor and greatly appreciate their generosity,” said David Solo, president and CEO of SONC. “We are working to support children and adults with intellectual disabilities in every city, town and community – we are your neighbors. Partnering with Nextdoor is a perfect fit.”
