Ways to Get Involved
Clinical Directors are doctors, clinicians or other experts in their respective healthcare fields who volunteer their time to support the health and well-being of Special Olympics athletes. We rely on Clinical Directors to lead Healthy Athletes®screenings and help change the landscape of care for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics athletes are trained as Health Messengers to encourage healthy behaviors for their fellow athletes and advocate for inclusive healthcare outside of the organization. Visit our Athlete Leadership Program page to get involved and learn more.
Join our movement for inclusive health! Health Professionals provide guidance and hands-on assessments for Special Olympics athletes in their respective areas of expertise. Gain real-world experience interacting with the intellectual disabilities community and help us break down healthcare barriers. Volunteer at a Healthy Athletes event or become part of our referral network!
We are proud to partner with local medical programs including at Stanford University, Touro University, University of the Pacific and others. Students gain real-world experience and learn directly from athletes about the best ways to treat people with intellectual disabilities. Through these hands-on interactions, athletes improve their health and students develop a newfound knowledge that they can use to create a brighter future of inclusive health.
Special Olympics Health is made possible by the Golisano Foundation in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
