A picture’s worth a thousand words, but hearing from students involved in Unified Sports really makes all the difference. Below, we share some testimonials from students – both in special and general education – to help give you more insight into the program.
“I loved seeing the kids smile and to know we are making a difference. You’re never too young to make a difference.”
-Annie, sixth grade
“I thought that this was a very fun experience getting to help people. I will definitely do it again. I love the feeling of helping people.”
-Katie, eighth grade
“I really loved being a part of this. I loved seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing that we made that happen. I will definitely do it again next year.”
-Jennifer, seventh grade
“My favorite thing was the bowling. You were able to really interact with the Special Olympics athletes and see that they’re no different than us. They carry on conversations just like us and show their happiness and excitement when they win. It was truly a life-changing experience, as much for me as it was for them.”
– Sierra, sixth grade
“I went to the bowling and basketball events during this school year. I was a timer and scorekeeper. At the basketball event, I liked how even though they are special education athletes, they can still play and participate. It is also a competition between the volunteers as we cheered on the team that were scoring for.”
– Hayden, eighth grade
