Special Olympics Northern California (SONC) recently partnered with United Airlines for an Inclusive Travel Panel at San Francisco International Airport.
United brought together various employees – including TSA executives, customer service representatives and others – to learn from Special Olympics athletes and their families about some of the challenges faced by travelers with disabilities. The panel featured Athlete Leader Terence and his mother, Darlene; Athlete Leader Christy; and Athlete Leader Sophie, accompanied by her father, Chuck.
During the panel, employees asked questions of the athletes and families in order to better understand some of the aspects that go into their travel experiences, and how United can work to ensure that individuals with disabilities receive the best overall service. In addition, each athlete leader shared their respective Special Olympics background and why the organization is so important to them.
United is a global partner of Special Olympics and supports SONC on a number of local activations, including serving as the presenting sponsor of the San Francisco 5K/10K & Polar Plunge. SONC is grateful for United’s support of Special Olympics programs and its overall mission of inclusion within the travel industry.
