Nearly 30 Special Olympics Northern California Athlete Leaders and mentors gathered last month in the East Bay for the 2025 Athlete Leadership Program Summer Summit.
The Summit offered an opportunity for Athlete Leaders to learn new skills, hear from guest speakers and enjoy bonding opportunities with new and old friends. Sessions included fundraising; public speaking; financial literacy; social media; art; media training with Special Olympics NorCal Board Member Kyla Grogan; an introduction to AI for people with intellectual disabilities, led by Special Olympics NorCal Board Member Eric Wilfrid; outdoor activities and more.

Along with the interactive sessions, Athlete Leaders and mentors enjoyed time together and were able to practice their social skills with others.
“Thinking back on the Athlete Leadership Summit, it was a really valuable couple of days,” said one Athlete Leader. “I chose to include all the sessions I could, and it felt like a great investment in building some solid professional skills that I can use not just in leadership roles but truly in real life.”
