The High Tech Challenge is Special Olympics Northern California’s premier golf tournament and largest single-day fundraiser. And this year, we’re raising the stakes! Over the past six years, this signature event has brought together more than 300 business and community leaders to raise nearly $3 million for our life-changing programs.

This fall, we’re returning to the prestigious Olympic Club in San Francisco, with an exclusive, intimate twist. Every High Tech Challenge golfer this year will play on the world-renowned Lake Course, an historic, iconic course that will welcome the PGA Championship in 2028.

The Lake Course has hosted multiple major golf championships for over a century, and on September 14th, you can play it for a cause worthy of the grounds.

Your participation directly funds free, year-round programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities — empowering them through sports, leadership, health and schools.

The day goes well beyond the fairways. Along with your round, join fellow participants for a private networking lunch including remarks from our keynote speaker and a Special Olympics Athlete Ambassador. On-course activations and unified contests bring the Special Olympics spirit to life — reminding everyone exactly who we’re playing for.

FAQ’s

Check in with attendant at the kiosk when you arrive at The Olympic Club and let them know you are participating in the High Tech Challenge. Valet and self parking available. You can leave your bag at the valet service and they will ensure it is delivered to your reserved golf cart at the driving range.

You can rent golf clubs for the tournament through Clublender. Clublender offers premium clubs for rent and can deliver them to The Olympic Club, your hotel, or your home at no extra cost. Delivery and return are also included. clublender.com

2026 Double-Round Tournament: First round shotgun start at 9am. Second round shotgun start at 2:45pm. All foursomes tee off simultaneously from different holes.

Scramble format: Each player hits a tee shot on each hole, but everyone plays from the spot of the best shot. So on, and so forth, until the ball is holed.

NO handicaps required.

Digital scoring: Using the Golf Genius app on a smartphone, ONE individual in each foursome will be in charge of tracking the score.

Bent grass, ryegrass and poa annua are used on tee boxes and fairways; the greens are bent grass; and the rough is Kentucky bluegrass.

PLEASE replace divots.

Tees: White Tees are for men and Green are for women.

Awards will be distributed to winners and runners-up from each round. The overall championship foursome will be memorialized on the Matt Thompson Champions Cup.
