Michael Preciado
From Clovis, California, Mike has been on staff with Special Olympics Northern California for nearly 10 years. He’s famously remembered for sinking a full-court shot in high school basketball, a moment that remains legendary to those who know him. Mike is excited for his first USA Games and is looking forward to watching Team NorCal athletes compete and form new friendships with peers from across the country. What makes him most proud is supporting Special Olympics athletes and seeing them do what they love most: compete and have fun!

Jenn Wilson-Marchino
Jenn has dedicated nearly three decades to Special Olympics Northern California—23 years as a coach and 5 as a team manager. She’s well known for her boundless energy, which has carried her through nine marathons! Jenn is excited for the 2026 USA Games, eager to see athletes and coaches from across the country experience the thrill of national competition for the first time and to witness sports not offered in NorCal. Having attended USA Games previously as a swim coach in 2014 (New Jersey) and 2018 (Seattle), she knows firsthand how special these events are. What Jenn treasures most are the relationships she’s built along the way: her two wonderful boys, loving husband, and an incredible circle of friends (including the athletes she coaches and their families) who continue to inspire her every day.

Drew Torosian
Drew began volunteering and coaching with Special Olympics Northern California in 2005 and joined the staff in 2019. She has a fun hidden talent: reciting the alphabet backwards. At the 2026 USA Games in Minnesota, Drew is excited to experience the camaraderie, support, and competitiveness among athletes, represent Team NorCal, and connect with delegations from other states. She previously served as a Team USA snowboard coach at the 2009 World Games and takes the most pride in raising her daughters to be kind and compassionate.

Alexa Angel
Alexa joined Special Olympics Northern California three years ago, bringing her experience as a former athlete in team sports and a competitor in the U.S. Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships to her coaching. She knows firsthand what large national competitions are like and is eager for her athletes to experience the excitement and meet competitors from across the country. For Alexa, it’s incredibly fulfilling to see her team earn this opportunity and be recognized nationally. Alexa takes great pride in her team’s resilience and dedication. They show up excited to practice each week, give it their all, and have fun along the way, no matter the challenges. She’s especially excited to see them celebrated and cheered on by family, friends, and the broader Special Olympics community.

Cliff Coloma
Cliff has been a coach with Special Olympics NorCal for 16 years. Known for his culinary skills and love of experimenting with new recipes, he is thrilled for the 2026 USA Games and excited to be a part of the Team NorCal delegation represented on the big stage. For him, the most priceless moments are seeing the athletes’ emotions as they experience this once-in-a-lifetime event. Cliff takes immense pride in the hard work and commitment of his athletes. Their teamwork and determination are what give them the opportunity to showcase their talent and spirit to the country.

Thurgood Williams
Thurgood, better known as Malachi, has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for 12 years, building a strong connection to the basketball program and its athletes. What excites him most about the 2026 USA Games is seeing the incredible talent from across the country and experiencing the event alongside his older brother, Markus Adam Williams, who inspired him to become a coach. This will be Malachi’s first USA Games, and he takes immense pride in the basketball team and organization he belongs to. He deeply values the dedication of his athletes and fellow coaches, whose hard work day in and day out made this opportunity possible.

Alonzo Fountain
An Oakland based athlete, Alonzo has been with Special Olympics Northern California for six years and brings a great sense of pride to everything he does on the court. With a name inspired by a legendary basketball player (and even a restaurant) Alonzo has a fun story that always gets people smiling. USA Games will be a brand-new experience for him, and he’s looking forward to traveling out of state, meeting new teams, and seeing new faces. What matters most to Alonzo is showing up as a true team player. He’s proud of getting out there, supporting his teammates, and competing together.

Danie White
Danie has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for 13 years, becoming a familiar and respected presence among athletes and coaches alike. The 2026 USA Games mark a major milestone in her journey. It’s her first time traveling out of state to compete alongside other elite Special Olympics athletes. After more than a decade of dedication, Danie takes immense pride in earning her spot and is excited to connect with new teams from across the country.

Daniel Lloyd
Daniel has been competing with Special Olympics for three years and brings enthusiasm to everything he does. Off the court, he’s known for his video game skills, but in competition, Daniel thrives on teamwork and challenge. The 2026 USA Games will mark his first time competing at this level, and he’s excited to play alongside his teammates and face athletes from other states. What Daniel is most proud of is persevering through his disability and continuing to play the sports he loves.

Fransisco Jauregui
Francisco has been a proud member of the Special Olympics Northern California community for an incredible 22 years. A dedicated basketball athlete, Francisco is also known for his hidden talent as a DJ, bringing rhythm and energy wherever he goes. He is excited to compete at his first USA Games, especially for the chance to face new teams and play basketball in a different state. What Francisco is most proud of is being on the court with his teammates and coaches, and the strong support system that surrounds and uplifts his team.

Gabe Onhemus
Gabriel, from Elk Grove, California, has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for four years and has found a true passion on the basketball court. Competing in basketball is what excites him most, and earning the opportunity to play at the USA Games marks an important milestone in his athletic journey. Gabriel is especially proud of being able to play the sport he loves and the unwavering support of his parents, who are always there cheering him on at games and practices.

Hamid Fazel
A familiar face throughout Sacramento, Hamid has been involved in Special Olympics for 17 years. Through his dedication to sport and the connections he’s built across the city, he’s earned a strong reputation both on and off the court. This will be Hamid’s first time competing at USA Games, and he’s excited to play and travel to a new state. Above all, he’s motivated by one goal—bringing home the gold for Team NorCal.

Malik Patrick
Malik is a proud Sacramento-based athlete and a talented artist who enjoys expressing himself through his artwork outside of sports. He has been a Special Olympics Northern California athlete for two years and is preparing for his first national competition. Malik is excited to travel to Minnesota for the 2026 USA Games and experience the event alongside his teammates. What he values most is the strong support he receives from his coaches and fellow athletes and having fun together.

Markus Williams
Markus has built a well-rounded athletic journey in his 12 years as a Special Olympics NorCal athlete. He first made his mark in track and field, where he quickly gained recognition early in his Special Olympics career, and has since expanded his passion into basketball. USA Games hold special meaning for Markus. Having previously served as an alternate for track and field at the 2014 Games in Los Angeles, competing in Minnesota represents a milestone moment. He’s especially excited to play basketball in a different state and experience competing on a college campus. What Markus is most proud of is earning a spot on the Sacramento Republic Unified soccer team and the opportunity to represent his community and Team NorCal this summer.

Sohrob Razawi
From Fremont, California, Sohrob has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for seven years and has found a true home on the basketball court. Known for always being in the gym, Sohrob brings consistency and a love for the game that makes him a familiar and respected presence among teammates. USA Games marks an exciting new chapter for Sohrob, as this will be his first time competing at the national level. He’s especially looking forward to facing teams from different states and experiencing travel outside of California. Above all, Sohrob takes pride in being a Special Olympics athlete.

Stefanie Terrill
With 12 years in Special Olympics Northern California, Coach Stefanie is a force both on and off the bocce court. Originally from Sunnyvale and now based in San Jose, she is known for running half marathons, smoking meats on her Traeger, and bringing smiles and personality to every game. This year, Stefanie is excited to travel to Minnesota with her bocce team for her first USA Games and cheer on athletes competing in sports not offered in her county. She takes pride in her accomplishments as head coach and in representing the skill of bocce as the only Team NorCal bocce team at the Games.

Anthony Puma
Originally from Kansas City and now residing in San Jose, California, Anthony has been a Special Olympics NorCal athlete for 13 years. Known for amping up his teammates and cheering everyone on, his enthusiasm sets the tone for his team on and off the court. Anthony is excited to attend his first USA Games and travel to Minnesota with his bocce team. He is proud of his accomplishments in bocce and believes that hard work and determination truly pay off.

Courtney Fabbro
With 22 years in Special Olympics, Courtney has built an impressive athletic record. Originally from Redwood City and now based in San Jose, she is best known for her deep two-pointer and steady presence on the basketball court. Traveling to Minnesota for the USA Games marks a new chapter, as it will be only her second time competing outside of California. Courtney takes great pride in her basketball achievements, including the many gold medals she has earned over the years.

Johan Grosskopf
A bocce force to be reckoned with, Johan brings 20 years of Special Olympics experience to the court. Originally from Centurion, South Africa, and now based in Mountain View, California, Johan is known for his powerful rolling style, using strength and precision to knock opponents’ balls out of the way. As he heads to Minnesota for the first time, Johan is excited to explore Minneapolis, especially its food scene. He is proud to represent Northern California at his first Special Olympics USA Games.

Trisha Singhal
Trisha is a small but mighty athlete with 18 years in Special Olympics Northern California. Known for her sharp shooting in bocce, bravery, and sportsmanlike spirit, she is excited to travel to Minnesota with her bocce team and her amazing coach for her first USA Games. Trisha takes great pride in the many gold medals she has earned in bowling and enjoys knitting hats in her free time.

Amberly Vane
Amberly grew up in Pleasanton, California, and now lives in Sacramento. She has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for 25 years and is known for her meticulous skills in the kitchen. Amberly is excited to attend her first USA Games, where she looks forward to watching athletes compete and meeting new participants from other states. She is most proud of achieving a personal milestone, buying her own home.

Cathi Aurich
Cathi is a Sacramento-based coach with over 30 years of experience with Special Olympics NorCal. Her hidden talent is she is a 2nd-degree blackbelt. Cathi is most excited to watch athletes perform and enjoy their time in the spotlight at her first USA Games. She is especially proud when athletes show great sportsmanship and support one another through wins, losses, and every attempt in between.

Bryan Liao
From Saratoga, Bryan has been part of Special Olympics for 20 years. A big sports fan, Bryan loves watching all kinds of sports and brings that enthusiasm to his own competition. He is excited to attend his first USA Games and looks forward to the experience. Bryan is most proud of his drive to succeed in earning gold medals.

Hailey Swank
Hailey was born and raised in Oakley and now competes out of Mountain Ranch, California. She has been part of Special Olympics Northern California since the age of eight, competing in soccer. Known for her thoughtfulness, Hailey loves making handmade cards for the people she cares about. She is excited to attend her first USA Games, especially for the opportunity to fly on an airplane for the first time and travel independently. Hailey is most proud of her volunteer work, including walking dogs at local shelters, and of her chihuahua, Valente, whom she adopted from one of the shelters where she volunteers.

Ruben Camarillo
Ruben is from Fresno, California, and has been part of Special Olympics since the age of eight. Known for excelling in track and field, he is especially proud his speed. Off the track, Ruben shines on stage as a regular singer at talent shows. He is excited to attend his first USA Games, with flying on an airplane being one of the highlights he is most looking forward to. Above all, Ruben takes great pride in his team, the San Francisco 49ers.

Carl Gayle
Coach Carl grew up in Savannah, Georgia, and is now based in Sacramento, California. He is well known among his circle for his impressive cooking skills and for mentoring athletes with dedication and heart. With over 30 years of experience coaching for Special Olympics Northern California, Carl previously attended the 2014 USA Games in New Jersey leading the track and field team. This year, he is excited to return to the national stage for a new sport! Carl is most proud of his roles as a dad, grandfather, and coach.

David Bosley
A Special Olympics athlete since 2021, David is known for his athleticism, including his impressive ability to do a backflip. He is excited to attend his first USA Games and travel to a new state. David is most proud of his strong work ethic and the effort he brings to his team.

Kamarie Nelson
Attending his first USA Games, Kamarie will represent Team NorCal from Sacramento. He has been competing in Special Olympics for 10 years and is known for his impressive video game skills. Kamarie is excited for the opportunity to travel to Minnesota with his team and is proud of how far he has come with Special Olympics, earning the chance to compete at USA Games.

Kevin Perovitz
Kevin is a Sacramento-based athlete with 15 years of experience competing in Special Olympics programs. While he will be competing in flag football, he is especially known for his basketball skills. Kevin is excited to represent Team NorCal at the 2026 USA Games for the first time. Above all, he is most proud of his kids.

Marvin Bowens
Being involved with Special Olympics NorCal for 11 years, Marvin is a seasoned athlete and leader both on and off the field. Outside of sports, he has a hidden talent in the kitchen and is an excellent cook. Marvin is excited to attend his first USA Games, where he looks forward to meeting people from across the country and experiencing the Special Olympics community on a larger stage. He is most proud of the legacy he is building for his kids.

Rodney Hayes
Rodney is from Oakland and has been with Special Olympics Northern California for 18 years. Known for his love of sports and his sense of humor, Rodney is passionate about playing hard and keeping his teammates smiling. He previously competed in the 2014 USA Games in New Jersey in track and field. Rodney is excited to return to the USA Games with his team, where his goal is to compete for gold. He is most proud of playing alongside his teammates and creating lasting memories together.

Sincere is from Sacramento, California, and has been involved with Special Olympics NorCal for 11 years. Known for his speed, Sincere excels as a fast runner and brings that strength to his competition. Hailing from Richmond, California, Jabulani “Jay” Smith has been involved with Special Olympics for five years. Tamarious joined Special Olympics Northern California two years ago and is known for motivating those around him and bringing positive energy to everything he does. Jeff Whitehead
Jeff has been a Special Olympics NorCal coach for more than eight years and is well-known fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He is most excited to attend his first USA Games, where he looks forward to witnessing athletes accomplish things they once thought were impossible. What Jeff values most about Special Olympics is the unconditional friendship, trust, and camaraderie that make everyone feel genuinely welcomed. He is proud to support and be part of a community that makes everyone feel seen and welcomed.

Jane Bucher
Jane Bucher has been a dedicated member of Special Olympics Northern California for 25 years and is a proud member of the Golf Hall of Fame. Based in Sacramento, Jane has also explored the country and Mexico on her Harley Davidson motorcycle. She previously participated in the 2022 USA Games in Orlando and is excited to experience the thrill of opening ceremonies again with her athletes and watch them have fun and perform their best. Jane takes great pride in helping athletes achieve things they never thought possible, celebrating their accomplishments, and seeing them encourage and support one another.

Seven years into her Special Olympics Northern California journey, Mirabella has built a reputation as a versatile and talented athlete, competing in golf, bowling, swimming, skiing, and tennis. Off the field, she surprises friends with her karaoke skills, performing a wide range of songs and dance moves. This year marks an exciting milestone for Mirabella as she heads to her first USA Games, eager to explore a new city and represent Northern California. She cherishes her family, her school, and the chance to showcase her athleticism in Minneapolis.

Brian Dallas
Brian has been a Special Olympics NorCal athlete since he was nine years old. Known for his adventurous spirit, Brian loves to travel, explore new places, try new things, and meet new people. He is excited to attend his first USA Games, where he’s looking forward to playing golf, staying in the dorms, and flying on an airplane. Brian is most proud of playing sports, doing his best, and earning medals along the way.

Kara Hanson
Kara joined Special Olympics NorCal in 1998, and has been an athlete for 27 years, competing in bowling, bocce, and golf. She is best known for winning a gold medal in bowling at the 2003 World Games in Dublin, Ireland, and for her memorable performance as Ginger Rogers in Dancing With the Stars at the Bob Hope Theatre. Kara is excited to meet new people and aims to bring home another gold at this year’s USA Games. Above all, she takes pride in being a good person and a positive presence in her community.

Nima Hosseini
Nima has been a Special Olympics NorCal athlete for nearly 30 years and is known for his kindness, gentle spirit, and positive attitude. He loves joking around to make people smile and is dedicated to maintaining his daily routines. Nima is excited to meet other athletes, compete, and socialize at his first Special Olympics USA Games. He is deeply proud of his family, including his sister, who has always supported him, and his niece and nephew, whose intelligence and athletic talents inspire him. Equally, Nima takes pride in his own commitment to health, exercise, and consistency.

Michelle Hendrix
Michelle’s journey with Special Olympics Northern California began in grade school, when she had the unforgettable honor of carrying the Torch at a Track & Field event in Placerville, with a little help from her mom. Known for her artistic talent, Michelle loves creating drawings for friends and family to celebrate happy moments or brighten tough days. She also holds a blue belt in Karate, showcasing her dedication and discipline. Excited to travel out of state for her first USA Games, Michelle looks forward to connecting with fellow athletes and coaches and making new friends along the way. She takes pride in her work, feeling fulfilled when she does a good job and earns the recognition of her boss.

Susan has been a part of Special Olympics Northern California for over 40 years, sharing her passion and experience as Michelle’s golf coach. Hailing from Placerville, California, she is known for her famous Sin Pie, Shrimp Moose, and Sausage Casserole. Susan is honored to participate in USA Games alongside her daughter, Michelle, and looks forward to the excitement, camaraderie, and experiences she will share with athletes and coaches in Minnesota. Andrea Kearney
Andrea Kearney is a Sacramento-based Special Olympics coach with six years of experience supporting athletes on and off the field. Known for her legendary charcuterie boards and her “mom” superpowers (always prepared with sunscreen, hats, and water) Andrea brings care, positivity, and encouragement to every event. She is excited to attend her first USA Games, where she looks forward to seeing her team succeed. Andrea is proud to celebrate the joy and excitement the athletes experience as they reach their goals.

John Hofstetter
Coach John has been coaching with Special Olympics NorCal for four years. While he says he’s not famous for anything in particular, he can juggle—a hidden talent he keeps in his back pocket! He’s most excited to watch his athletes compete and is incredibly proud of their hard work and sportsmanship.

Meghan Hurley
Coach Meghan has been involved with Special Olympics NorCal for 10 years and is known—perhaps infamously—for her signature “Irish exits.” She’s most excited to meet new people at USA Games and to witness talented athletes from across the country compete. What makes her proudest is seeing the joy her athletes experience while participating in sports.

Avery has been a Special Olympics NorCal athlete for four years and is well-known for always being helpful to others. At the 2026 USA Games, Avery’s most excited to hang out with his friends and teammates. What makes him most proud is working together and having fun as a team—something that makes the whole experience special.

Bethany Rice
Bethany is from Sacramento, CA and has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for seven years. Known as a strong defender and a bit of a “mother hen” to her teammates, Bethany brings leadership and care to the soccer field. As she heads to her first USA Games, her goal is clear: she’s playing to win. Above all, Bethany is most proud of her friends, her family, and her daughter.

Billy Rice
Billy, who has been with Special Olympics for five years, has a funny superpower—he’s known for getting injured often but healing really fast! He’s excited to visit a new state for the second time in his life. What makes him proudest is simply being able to play with his teammates and have fun on the field.

Brandon Stanko
Brandon has been a Special Olympics NorCal athlete for two years and is known for never giving up. His teammates call him “The Wall” because of his resilience and presence on the field. He’s most looking forward to the entire USA Games experience and spending time with his teammates and coaches. He’s proud of everyone who’s helped him get to this point—his team, his family, and himself.

Joshua Phelps
Joshua has been a Special Olympics athlete for five years and is known for being nice and friendly. He’s especially looking forward to hanging out with friends during the USA Games. He’s proudest when he’s happy and competing well in matches—something he always strives for.

Masihullah Rahmani
Masi has been part of Special Olympics NorCal for two years and is known for being good at everything—including speaking two languages! He’s excited to be attending USA Games and looking forward to experiencing different cultures and sharpening his soccer skills. Masi is proud of his school and coaches who have supported him and cherishes the memories he’s made with his team.

Nick has spent six years with Special Olympics and is known for being athletic—with what he proudly calls the best hair on the team. He’s most excited for the games and experience the news fans cheering him on. Nick is proud to show his friends, family, teammates, and coaches all the hard work he’s put in.

Mark Tackett
Coach Mark has been with Special Olympics NorCal for over 10 years and brings serious style to the sidelines—he’s got an impressive sneaker collection! He previously coached at the 2018 USA Games in Seattle and is excited to see his athletes give it their all in 2026. He’s most proud of the dedication and hard work his athletes bring to every practice, as well as the strong friendships that have grown along the way.

Roman Gonzalez
Coach Roman has been involved with Special Olympics NorCal for a very long time and is returning to the national stage after coaching at the 2018 USA Games. Known among friends for his legendary appetite (once finishing his own meal plus three others at dinner!), he’s most excited to watch his team put their hard work into action at the 2026 USA Games. For Roman, family and team are at the heart of everything.

Andrew Montalvo
Born in Madera and raised in Fresno, Andrew has been involved with Special Olympics NorCal since elementary school. He’s proud to have won the Fresno Unified ACSA Every Succeeding Student Award, which came with a $1,000 scholarship. Representing Northern California at the 2026 USA Games is a huge milestone for him, especially since it will be his first time attending. Andrew is proud of himself, his teammates, and his coaches for being selected to compete and is excited to visit Minneapolis.being picked for the USA games.

Andrew Saldana
Andrew has been involved with Special Olympics NorCal for two years and has already earned four gold medals! Off the field, he enjoys photography, a talent that showcases his creative side. As he prepares for the 2026 USA Games, Andrew is excited about competing in soccer and bringing home another gold. He says he’s most proud of his athletic abilities and all the friends he’s made through Special Olympics.

Anthony Aguilar
Anthony has been participating in Special Olympics both through school and independently for four years. He says he’s always been someone who can play all sports and loves going on trips with his team and competing together. After participating in the 2024 World Games, he’s now excited to take on the challenge of the USA Games and bring home the gold.

Chris Rij
Chris, known to his teammates as “The Wall” for his goal saving skills, has been involved in Special Olympics since his freshman year of high school. He made his USA Games debut in 2018 and is excited to return to the national stage to go for gold. What makes him most proud is never giving up on his team—and knowing they never give up on him either.

Jairo Becerra
Jairo has been a Special Olympics NorCal athlete for three years. A talented athlete on the field, he’s also an amateur boxer with hopes of going pro one day. He’s especially excited for his first USA Games and the fact that he’ll be flying on a plane for the first time. For Jairo, this moment is about leveling up and showing the world his skills—something that makes him incredibly proud.

Nick Novoa
Nick has been a Special Olympics NorCal athlete for 6+ years and brings with him over a decade of experience in wrestling and USA CCA boxing. He’s especially proud of his ability to relate to the mindset of professional athletes, both in soccer and boxing. At the 2026 USA Games, he’s excited to compete with the best of the best and showcase his talents. Though he previously competed in fitness-related Olympic events in high school and Golden Gloves boxing, this is a new kind of opportunity he’s grateful for. Nick thanks Coach G and Coach Tackett for supporting him along this journey.

Sean Boylan
Sean has been part of Special Olympics NorCal for 10 years and is known for scoring goals and his experience at the 2018 USA Games, where he and his team earned a silver medal. He’s looking forward to sharing this new Games experience with his friends, family, and teammates—and hopefully walking away with gold. What makes him proudest is watching his team grow stronger over the years, bonding closely and becoming more connected. Going undefeated in Minnesota is a big point of pride for him, and he’s hopeful for another big win.

Brock Goerlich
Brock has been part of Special Olympics for seven years and is best known for “bringing the fun times” wherever he goes. He’s looking forward to competing, meeting new athletes, and hopefully bringing home the gold. For Brock, watching friendships grow and seeing his teammates improve are what make the journey truly meaningful.

Connor Hatton
This is Connor’s first year with Special Olympics NorCal, and he’s already making a sweet impression—he’s famous for his homemade cookie dough! Connor is excited to compete against top athletes at USA Games and is most proud of the teamwork and collaboration that have helped bring the team this far.

Jadyn Gonzalez
Though it’s his first year officially involved in Special Olympics, Jadyn has grown up around the program through his dad. Known for his resilience—he tore both ACLs in back-to-back years—Jadyn is proud that he never gave up. Paige Smith
Paige has been part of Special Olympics NorCal for about seven years, starting with the Clovis North Unified program. Known for keeping it real and having a good time, she’s most excited to be part of this experience and support her team however she can. She’s proud of her teammates and coaches for everything they’ve accomplished to reach this point.

Sydney Smith
Sydney has been involved with Special Olympics since 2017, beginning with the Clovis North Unified Sports program. She’s competed locally, statewide, and nationally as a Unified Partner and helped her team earn silver at the 2018 USA Games in Seattle. Known for always being prepared and for acting as the “mom” of the group, Sydney is excited to return to the national stage for another shot at gold. She’s proudest of being part of a team where the bonds go beyond the field and last a lifetime.

Brian Wentzel
Brian has been a dedicated volunteer coach with Special Olympics Northern California for 15 years, supporting athletes with the East Bay Sea Serpents swimming team. Hailing from Lafayette, California, he is known among friends for his culinary skills, especially his impressive crème brûlée. This year marks Brian’s first time attending the USA Games, and he is thrilled for the opportunity to represent Team NorCal. Above all, he takes pride in guiding his athletes and being part of their journey. Coming soon.

Tracy Jensen
Tracy brings years of experience coaching and mentoring Special Olympics athletes to her role at the 2026 USA Games. She first began coaching in high school and has since become known for her encouragement, organization, and commitment to her athletes, both in and out of the pool. Tracy has a special talent for connecting quickly with people of all ages and abilities, helping them feel confident and supported. She is most excited to cheer on the athletes, witness their determination, and be part of a large-scale event that celebrates inclusion, perseverance, and sportsmanship. What Tracy values most is seeing athletes believe in themselves and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach—being part of their journey and watching their confidence grow is deeply rewarding.

Jessa Melcer
Jessa is a relatively new Special Olympics athlete, having competed for one year with Northern California. In that short time, she has already made an impression as a strong swimmer, excelling in freestyle and butterfly. Beyond the pool, she is a talented juggler and a devoted Muppets fan. She is excited for the 2026 USA Games in Minnesota, eager to make new friends and give her best performance in her events. Jessa takes pride in the strength and determination she demonstrates in the pool.

Enrique Madrid
From Fresno, California, Enrique has been a dedicated Special Olympics Northern California athlete since 2009 and is best known for his bowling skills. The 2026 USA Games in Minnesota will mark his first opportunity to compete nationally for Special Olympics. Enrique is especially excited to meet new people and take part in swimming events. What makes him most proud is the opportunity to win a medal and represent Team NorCal.

Neysa Pederson
Neysa has been part of Special Olympics since 2009 and is celebrating 18 years as an athlete. She has a remarkable memory and a thoughtful creative streak, with a special talent for remembering people’s names, birthdays, state capitals, and making handmade birthday cards. As she prepares for her first Special Olympics USA Games, Neysa is excited to meet new friends, swim her fastest, and explore new places. Competing on a national stage is a milestone moment for her, and she’s eager to soak in every part of the experience. Neysa is most proud of helping others and cheering on her teammates, truly embodying the spirit of kindness and teamwork.

Simon Keenan
Simon has been part of the Special Olympics family almost his entire life, training since age six and competing since he was eight. He brings a big personality wherever he goes and is well known for two things: effortlessly dropping into the splits and his honest (and entertaining) food reviews. Simon loves sharing his opinions and making people laugh. At his first-ever USA Games, Simon is especially excited to swim in front of a cheering crowd and soak up the excitement from the stands. What means the most to him is the support of his teammates, whose encouragement pushes him to take on bigger challenges with confidence.
Tennis
Coach

Christine Costamagna
A San Rafael–based coach, Christinehas been involved with Special Olympics Northern California for 26 years, leading tennis programs in her county since 2000. A lifelong competitive tennis player, Christine competed in college and achieved national rankings in her 30s and 40s. Beyond coaching, she is deeply committed to expanding access to the sport. As President of USTA NorCal, she formed an adaptive tennis committee in partnership with Special Olympics and other adaptive organizations, and she serves on the board of Youth Tennis Advantage to support underserved communities. Christine previously attended the 2018 USA Games in Seattle as a tennis coach for NorCal and has supported athletes who have competed in World Games internationally. She is proud to share her passion for tennis with her Special Olympics community, which has become like family to her.

Danielle Chinn
Danielle has been part of Special Olympics for over 20 years and is a highly accomplished athlete, earning 16 medals in tennis, along with medals in basketball and long-distance running. Known for her spirit on the tennis court, Danielle also enjoys participating in local 5K and 10K races and has collected more than 100 race t-shirts along the way. She is excited to compete at the 2026 USA Games for the first time and looks forward to meeting athletes from across the country. Beyond her success in tennis, Danielle is especially proud of training and completing the Big Sur Half Marathon in 2008.

Faaris Amin
Faaris has been a Special Olympics athlete since 2018, beginning as a skills player and transitioning to competitive match play in 2019. After a pause during 2020 and 2021, he returned to competition in 2022 and continues to compete today. Known for his talent in tennis and dedication to volunteering, Faaris received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in 2024 and 2025. He is excited to compete in his first USA Games, where his goal is to win a gold medal.

Nathan Jiang
A Pleasanton, California–based athlete, Nathan has been part of Special Olympics since elementary school, first joining the Phillies baseball team before transitioning to tennis in April 2024. Known for his dedication and discipline, Nathan is looking forward to applying his skills and gaining valuable match experience at the 2026 USA Games in Minnesota. He is excited to compete alongside athletes from across the country and is proud and honored to represent Team NorCal on the national stage.
Unified Partner

MJ Bedegi
Mary Jane has been involved with Special Olympics Northern California for 10 years. A longtime tennis captain for USTA and other competitive teams, Mary Jane is known for her kindness, high energy, and ability to create a fun, low-stress environment tailored to each athlete’s strengths and needs. She is deeply involved in community service and passionate about helping others through nonprofit and civic organizations. Mary Jane is excited to experience her first USA Games, where she looks forward to sharing in the joy and excitement athletes experience, especially during the opening and closing ceremonies that bring them together on a national stage. She is most proud to be part of a community that supports, celebrates, and empowers athletes as they improve their physical skills and develop confidence.

Chris Gonzales
Chris Gonzales brings a unique mix of creativity, leadership, and tech expertise to Special Olympics Northern California, where he has coached for nine years, seven as Head Coach. Before his career in tech, Chris performed on stage, worked as a costume character at Great America Amusement Park, and even spent time as a Stage Manager on a Royal Caribbean cruise in the Bahamas. This is Chris’ first USA Games, and he is most excited to watch athletes compete at their highest level, feel proud of their accomplishments, and connect with coaches and athletes from across the country. Among his proudest moments are helping athletes reach their full potential, seeing his daughter excel as a NorCal State Champion gymnast and Special Olympics coach, being named the 2023 NorCal Coach of the Year, and his work at Apple in Camera & Photos Intelligence. Despite a demanding position, he loves seeing people use the features he helped build.

Thomas Gersey
Thomas has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for about 15 years, bringing passion and skill to every athlete he coaches. A private chef and baker, trivia champion, and former athletic extra in the movie Moneyball, Thomas has a wide range of talents that reflect his creativity and drive. He is especially excited to return to the University of Minnesota, his alma mater, while attending his first USA Games, and to mentor new athletes at a national-scale event. As a father and coach, Thomas takes great pride in helping his daughter and athletes build confidence, improve their skills, and achieve success. For him, there is no greater reward than earning the trust of those he mentors and watching their development and success.

Danielle Blue
Danielle is a San Jose-based athlete who has with Special Olympics Northern California for 26 years. Known for her bright smile, Danielle is excited to compete and travel for her first USA Games. She is most proud of having her own place and the independence it represents.

Patrick Underly
Patrick has been part of Special Olympics Northern California for 35 years, making his mark as a skilled bowler, scorekeeper, and event announcer. He previously competed at the 2011 World Games in Greece, earning a gold medal in doubles and a silver medal in team bowling. Patrick is excited to meet athletes from across the country and represent Team NorCal at the 2026 USA Games. He takes great pride in being a Special Olympics athlete, celebrating a gold medal on his golden birthday, and volunteering at his church for 28 years. Coming soon.

Tyler Jeung
Tyler began with Special Olympics Northern California around age 12 and has been an athlete for nearly a decade, representing Oakland. A talented musician, he plays guitar, piano, taiko, and ukulele. Tyler is especially excited to visit Minnesota for the first time and connect with other delegations at his first USA Games. He takes pride in representing Northern California nationally and at Special Olympics NorCal’s Summer Games.</rewrite

Veronica has been a part of Special Olympics Northern California for five years, excelling as a track and field athlete. She is known by her teammates for her love of singing and dancing. Veronica is thrilled to be selected for her first USA Games and to travel out of state to represent Team NorCal, taking pride in her accomplishments on the track.
Youth Leadership Experience

Andy Marty
Andy has been involved with Special Olympics and Unified Sports since elementary school. Over the years, he has made his mark as a dedicated Unified Track & Field athlete, earning 10 medals through his competitions. Outside of sports, Andy is also working toward becoming an Eagle Scout! As he prepares for his first USA Games, Andy is most excited to meet new people, make new friends, and have fun as part of Team NorCal. What makes him most proud is seeing everyone enjoy the experience and do their very best.

Lauren Washer
Laura, from Shingle Springs, has dedicated 13 years to coaching with Special Olympics Northern California, including 11 years as a Unified Coach and district lead. For Laura, attending the 2026 USA Games represents both a meaningful culmination of the years of effort and love she has poured into Special Olympics, as well as an opportunity to continue growing in her skills and passion for the movement. This will be her first USA Games experience, and she takes the greatest pride in her five children and in the athletes she coaches, watching them develop life skills, independence, and inclusionary practices.

Reece Craig
Reece is in his second year as a Unified Track & Field Partner with Special Olympics NorCal. For Reece, the 2026 USA Games are an exciting opportunity to continue learning and growing in how he can best support athletes with intellectual disabilities and special needs. This will be his first time attending a national-level Special Olympics event, and he is especially motivated by the chance to be part of something bigger. What makes Reece most proud is the sense of accomplishment that comes from helping others and contributing to his community.
