The annual Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games is our largest local competition and features thousands of athletes and coaches coming together in the spirit of inclusion. Summer Games welcomes athletes from dozens of counties to compete in swimming, track and field, bocce and tennis. Summer Games is a high-visibility, multi-day event which showcases the talent, determination and joy of our Special Olympics community. Along with intense competition, athletes have the opportunity to meet new friends, receive free health screenings and experience independence – often for the first time – all while being supported by family, friends and fans.
Parade of Athletes, festivities, special guest speakers and entertainment, and the culmination of the region-wide Law Enforcement Torch Run that leads into Summer Games every year.
This year’s Opening Ceremony was highlighted by Pro Football Hall of Famer and 49ers great Bryant Young as our keynote speaker and a live show by Las Vegas’ hottest headliner, Frankie Moreno, joined by Lacey Schwimmer of Dancing With The Stars, who will got the audience on their feet with a genre-blurring musical and dance performance. The Opening Ceremony was co-emceed by Kyla Grogan from KRON4 and Special Olympics Athlete Leader Kim.
