General Recognition Questions
???? Who is eligible for volunteer recognition?
All registered SONorCal volunteers, as well as individuals with an ongoing, established relationship with our programs, are eligible for recognition.
???? How do I get recognized for my volunteer service?
Recognition is based on volunteer hours, years of service, impact, and nominations from the SONorCal community. Some awards require an application or nomination, others you must request.
???? Do I have to apply for an award?
It depends on the award! Some, like the Volunteer of the Year, require nominations, while others, like Years of Service Milestones, are automatically tracked.
???? Can I be recognized for multiple awards?
Yes! Volunteers can receive multiple forms of recognition based on their contributions. However, Volunteer of the Year winners from the past five years are not eligible to win again but will still be acknowledged.
???? Can I get a letter of recommendation or verification of my volunteer hours?
Yes! We can provide letters verifying hours for school projects, leadership programs, or other needs.

Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) Questions
???? Is SONorCal a certified PVSA organization?
Yes! We are an official certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA).
???? How do I qualify for the PVSA?
You must opt into the program and track your hours with us using our designated form. PVSA eligibility is based on the number of hours completed within a 12-month period.
???? When and how are PVSA awards given?
PVSA recipients are typically recognized at a local competition they attend so that our athletes can celebrate them.

Years of Service Milestones Questions
???? How do I know if I qualify for a milestone award?
Milestone awards are given automatically to volunteers, staff, and athletes with 5+ years of service, in increments up to years in 2025.
???? Where can I see the list of milestone recipients?
We maintain an honor list on our website for all recognized individuals.
